Cross-stitch preceded pixels by quite a few hundred years, though both are based on the principle of generating small squares of colour to build up an image. Traditional samplers often utilise symbols and motifs to represent events or items with personal meaning for the stitcher. The 'Pixel Samplers' series of works uses cross-stitch to depict imagery derived from personal computers.
